In a study of 74 asthmatic adults investigating the relationship between airway inflammation and disease severity, higher levels of inflammatory cells were found in patients taking both low-dose and high-dose steroids.20b

Asthma symptoms, such as early morning awakenings, difficulty with sleep and limitation of activities, and short-acting beta2-agonist use more than twice weekly, persisted at baseline despite treatment with inhaled steroids in the ASTHMA survey of 11,054 asthmatic patients 6 years and older.19
